Lunar Obsession
ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY
The emergence of Covid-19 flipped the world on its head. That much goes without saying. I am a very social creature and forfeiting these engagements has been very hard for me. It occurred to me that things don’t last. Holding off doing things that you have always wanted to do, within reason of course, is also a silly idea. Therefore, I got myself a telescope.
My Celestron NexStar 5SE has been a fun little toy to add to my photography hobby, as well as my nerd hobby. The idea was to be able to do some long exposures of the Milky Way, distant planets and, of course, the moon. It turns out that the former goals are a bit out of my reach with the equipment I have. This hobby takes dedication and money, the first I am developing and the second I am using elsewhere. So, I got the proper adapters for my Fuji X series mirrorless bodies, a bunch of eyepieces and filters and got to work. It does get pretty redundant shooting the same view of the same celestial body, but the act of capturing it is very rewarding. It is also nice to pop on a 35mm eyepiece and align to Jupiter or Saturn for a bit. Now I just have to figure out how to shoot them.
